Revisit: 30 before 30.

Rewind to June 2013, I lived in Putney, I worked in software, I baked ALOT, I’d just completed my first 10 mile race. I didn’t even know some of the people who have had the biggest influence on my life.

30 before 30 list

Almost everything has changed since then, so I thought it was time to revisit the list. Thirty is sneaking up on me and I might need to reappraise my goals.

One thing is for sure, there has been a lot less of this, and that is not a good thing.

30 before 30 flashback

1.Run a marathon – Paris 2014

Well that was the start of something…. 8 marathons, 2 ultras. 3 more marathons booked. Ihonestly couldn’t even have imagines this when I wrote the post in 2013.

2. Go to Asia – Vietnam 2015

My next marathon happens to be in Tokyo, so Asia visit number 2. Woohoo…

3. Run on a beach.

Failed in Cyprus, will have to plan another beach holiday. I think Lissy might be able to help me with this one.

4. Eat at Le Gavroche

I’m thinking this one might have to be a 30th birthday treat, I’m still hankering after a visit.

5. Have a Mortgage

Having a mortgage won’t make you happy. People do.

6. Ride in a Cadillac

I have no idea how to make this happen. But my shiny red convertible arrives in February. I’m lucky to drive lots of lovely cars, so this one doesn’t seem so important.

7. Go to afternoon tea at the Ritz/Savoy

I have plans for this. Woop.

8. Go Snorkelling

I might change this one, I have no idea why I added it, and I really don’t care! Any suggestions?

9. Get my 50 shirt at parkrun

Again, this was the start of something special I got my 50 tee, and my Achieved my 100 in 2016, now I’m cruising to my 25 volunteering t-shirt after getting involved with Homewood parkrun. If you’ve not done a parkrun, read some thoughts from my first parkrun here.

10. Ski

I LOVE skiing now, who wants to go? I visited Meribel in 2015, 2016 and still need lessons!

11. Start a pension

I started one in my software job, and I’m lucky now that my new company has a pension scheme. Kids if you haven’t got one, get one.

12. Try a Pilates Class

I did 2 in 2013, continued throughout 2014 and was going regularly in Ascot. when I find a new place to live this will be top of my list. It makes everything else I do better.

13. Grow Rhubarb (has to be all by me)

Urgh, I have zero green fingers, I haven’t learnt to grow Rhubarb, but I have learnt that I’m not a gardener and to make friends with people with allotments – important life lessons?

14. Throw a dinner party for 6+ people

I had 7 guests for Burns Night 2016, I LOVED it, but it took a lot of organisation. I’m glad I did it, but quite happy I don’t have another one planned right now.

15. Own a coffee machine and actually use it

I love (and miss) my coffee machine, my new goal is to one day have a plumbed machine, or maybe a shift per week in a coffee shop!

16. Buy a KitchenAid or a Garmin Running Watch

I am lucky and I have a Kenwood and a Garmin, both are invaluable but I do feel a bit bad having such material things on this list.

17. Sleep in a castle

Again, I have no idea how to make this happen and there isn’t long to go. Long weekend in Scotland anyone?

18. Go for a run with my boyfriend, no matter how short. (he is a non runner)

I did manage this once, then our relationship ended, and now he runs. Good on him.

19. Be a bridesmaid

For the lovely Mrs Histed 30/10/14. One of my best days ever, and the day I fell in love with Port and blue cheese.

20. Go to the football/cricket

08/08/16 Does Ascot vs Royal Holloway count?

21. Turn off my phone for one night a week

Still shit at this, once I’m a bit more settled I plan to set some rules about my phone.

22. Finish cooking Ann’s recipes

This one probably isn’t going to happen. I’m thinking of working my way through a cookbook. But which one?

23. Give up sugar for lent

Well I only really have one opportunity left to do this, so 2017 it is!

24. Make jam or curd from scratch

Made Rhubarb Curd 24/04/14

25. Go to a classical music concert

Again, failed on this one. Suggestions welcome.

26. Go camping

I’m entered into Endure 24 running and camping. How grumpy will I get if it rains?

27. Get a tattoo

28. Run a race abroad

– Paris Marathon 2014,

29. Give Blood

– tried and failed, not likely.

30. Try to Ride a Bike

Tried and succeeded first ride 07/08/16, I’ve had a bit of a hiatus and I need to get back on the bike.

There’s a lot still left to do, and beyond this list, so much I want to achieve and accomplish.

  1. Maria @ runningcupcake says:

What a great list! Congratulations on the 100 parkruns too- that’s my aim for next year. I liked the idea of working through a cook book but then I saw Julie and Julia and it put me off (I do like that film, but it looked hard work!).

    • Stephanie says:

Thanks Maria, how many have you done so far? You beat me to the volunteering tee! I’m thinking about Mary Berry’s Baking Bible, I’ve donw quite a lot already. I agree, that film put me off too!
